Cross in the fens
The hike starts with an initial climb along forest service roads. You pass over a bridge over the river the Rur, then you take a second ascent to the highest point of the hike. Now it is relatively flat until Kreuz im Venn, a pilgrimage site. You can walk around the rock. You return to Küchelscheid and the car park in Leykaul via the German exclave “Ruitzhof“.
Tipp
- If you stroll around the rock with the cross (about 300 metres), it becomes narrow and there are roots and rocks: here it is inaccessible for wheelchairs and prams. Everything else is accessible for wheelchairs and prams. Keep in mind that you start with 2 fairly tough climbs.
- The stairs to the top of the rock are uneven and rather adventurous to take: be careful.
